Announced February 2, 1998, HD-ROM is short for High-Density Read Only Memory and is a storage technology developed by IBM and Norsam Technologies that utilizes a 50 nanometer particle beam capable of writing 20MB per second, sending at 3MB a second and supporting up to 165 gigabytes on the same size as a standard CD-ROM disc.
